Blog feature @oisinq :

  1. There was a learn_git.md file in the repo which I converted to a blog post (created a new section on the website).

  2. I think it would be cool if Netsoc could possibly look into using the blog section to post some articles/guides/useful info from time to time. I've included my post under blogs as a guide to adding new posts.

  3. The only challenge would be updating the files on the server with new blog posts. I attempted to move the website to GitHub pages (tried it in my own private repository), but reverted the commit since GitHub wasn't able to build the site (there was an error in _sass/man.sass in the @import "bourbon" statement: GitHub couldn't find bourbon).

I like the idea of having a Netsoc blog, but I'm not 100% sure what its purpose would be and who should contribute to it. It's not my decision to make anyway, but I do think it's worth the 2020/21 committee discussing (cc @nicolemccabechu). The code as it stands looks good, but we'd have to see what the committee thinks (I'm not on it anymore 😭).

On point 3, I don't think we'll be using GH Pages any time soon. It would be great if we could auto-update the Netsoc webpage when this repo is updated, but that should be happening on the Netsoc server on not anywhere else imo. (It gets messy with our different domains to do it any other way)

Actually if you make this into an Issue, it'll make sure this idea isn't forgotten about and provide a place for it to be discussed.

Thanks!

On point 2, the 20/21 committee really like the blog idea! We think that both regular members and committee members should be able to contribute to it and they can write about any topics that people think would be relevant for CS/tech interested students.
